alert data | A set of data entered into SIS allowing the competent authorities to identify the subject of the alert with a view to taking specific action. |
alias | ‘alias’ refers to an identity that is suspected of being false or assumed. |
Alien | Any person other than a national of a Member State of the European Communities. |
Alphanumeric data | The data represented by letters, digits, special characters, spaces and punctuation marks. |
Alphanumeric search | Search/query performed with data represented by letters, digits, special characters, spaces and punctuation marks (e.g., names, date of birth, nationality). |
Amend the data | Amending data means updating/changing/modifying the data in an EU information system according to the applicable rules of that system. |
Amendments in VIS | In case a Member State has evidence that visa-related data recorded in the EES requires changes, the Member State shall check the accuracy of those data against the VIS and, if necessary, rectify, complete or erase them from the EES. Where a decision has been taken by the visa authority, to annul or revoke a visa or extend the period of validity of a visa, the visa authority that has taken the decision shall export the required data from the VIS into the EES. |
Annul short stay or visa | The data to be added where an authorisation for short stay or visa is annulled, i.e. the authorization is cancelled or declared as invalid, as the conditions for issuing it were not met. |
