Application for asylum | Any application submitted in writing, orally or otherwise by an alien at an external border or within the territory of a Contracting Party with a view to obtaining recognition as a refugee (in accordance with the Geneva Convention, as amended by the New York Protocol), and as such obtaining the right of residence. |
Application for international protection | Any request made by a third-country national or a stateless person for protection from a Member State, who can be understood to seek refugee status or subsidiary protection status, and who does not explicitly request another kind of protection outside the scope of Directive 2011/95/EU, that can be applied for separately. |
