Entry / Exit System (EES)

Entry/Exit System (EES) is a centralised system that registers entry and exit data and refusal of entry data of third-country nationals crossing the external borders of the Member States and determining the conditions for access to the EES for law enforcement purposes.

European Travel Information Authorisation System (ETIAS)

European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) is a centralised system for EU border management, which improves the security and safety aspects of travelling to or through the Schengen Area. The ETIAS requires all visa-exempt third-country nationals planning to travel to the Schengen Area to apply for their pre-travel authorisation online.

Schengen Information System (SIS)

The Schengen Information System (SIS) is the most widely used and largest information sharing system for security and border management in Europe. As there are no internal borders between Schengen countries in Europe, SIS compensates for border controls and is the most successful cooperation tool for border, immigration, police, customs and judicial authorities in the EU.

Interoperability

Interoperability enables the EU information systems EES, ETIAS, SIS, Eurodac, VIS and ECRIS-TCN to interact with each other and supplement each other in a pre-defined way allowing for improved access to and use of the information already stored in those system. One important aspect of interoperability is the comparing and linking of data between systems to facilitate the correct identification of persons and detect identity fraud.
